Manufacturing Test Engineer
Squarehead is looking for a Manufacturing Test Engineer to take technical ownership of testing solutions in the manufacturing of our acoustic sensor systems
Squarehead develops advanced acoustic sensor systems combined with artificial intelligence. Our technology gives users a new form of “super hearing” and is used, among other applications, to enhance situational awareness in defense and industrial sectors.
About the position
In this role, you will be responsible for the test software, test stations, fixtures, and measurement equipment used to verify our products in production. Your goal is to make our test solutions reliable, repeatable, and scalable, so that every product is tested the same way and to the same standard, regardless of where it is built.
You will work closely with Engineering, Production, Quality, and our external manufacturing partners across multiple sites, and you will be a key technical contact for everything related to production testing. The position offers hands-on work with both hardware and software, and a direct impact on product quality as we scale production.
Responsibilities
Take technical ownership of production test software, test stations, fixtures, instruments, and related tools.
Implement, qualify, maintain, and improve test solutions to ensure reliable and repeatable production testing.
Transfer tests, tools, and processes to manufacturing partners, and ensure consistent test methods, configurations, and results across sites.
Contribute to new product introduction with input on testability, manufacturability, test time, and traceability.
Troubleshoot production and test issues together with Engineering, Quality, IT, suppliers, and manufacturing partners.
Use test data and production experience to improve yield, product quality, and production efficiency.
Write work instructions, test manuals, and troubleshooting guides, and train operators and partners when test solutions are introduced or changed.
We welcome applicants based in either Oslo or Fredrikstad.
This position may require occasional domestic travel.
Personality & Interests
We value curiosity, teamwork, and a practical, structured approach to problem solving. You enjoy working hands-on with both hardware and software, take ownership of technical issues, and follow them through to robust solutions. You communicate clearly across teams and with external partners, and you see opportunities for improvement where others see routine.
Required Qualifications
BSc or MSc in Electronics, Mechatronics, Engineering Physics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Relevant experience from production testing, test or manufacturing engineering, or a similar technical role.
Solid understanding of electronics and embedded systems.
Hands-on experience with measurement equipment, test stations, and fixtures.
Experience with Linux and scripting or programming for test automation, for example Python.
Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to work both independently and with technical teams and manufacturing partners.
Fluent written and spoken English.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with acoustic or audio measurements.
Experience transferring tests to contract manufacturers (EMS).
Experience with statistical analysis of test data, such as SPC and yield analysis.
Experience from the defense industry or other regulated industries.
Norwegian language skills.
Workplace & Benefits
Working with production tests at Squarehead means turning advanced acoustic technology into products that perform reliably in demanding environments. You will work at the intersection of electronics, embedded systems, test automation, and manufacturing, and see the direct impact of your work on product quality and production performance.
In addition to the above, we offer:
Good work/life balance and a flexible workday.
Employee development through conferences and courses.
Easy commute right next to the subway.
Subsidised canteen.
Weekly organized physical activity (currently padel tennis and climbing)

About Squarehead Technology
Squarehead Technology, who celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2024, is a global leader in directional microphone technology. The company was founded by three physics students at the University of Oslo who were intrigued by underwater sound waves. They came up with the idea of a microphone capable of separating intelligible sound from noise. Two decades later, Squarehead has grown into a team of 70 employees who develop, design, manufacture, and sell advanced microphone arrays.
Through the “digitalization of human hearing”, we enhance situational awareness in industrial and security sectors. Our solutions—ranging from drone detection and condition monitoring to quality control—play a vital role in safeguarding critical infrastructure and assets.
Squarehead is headquartered in central Nydalen, Oslo, with a subsidiary in the United States and sales representatives stationed across the globe. All development and production take place in Nydalen, fostering a dynamic and collaborative work environment. Being close to the final products means that challenges are solved together, across disciplines and expertise. At Squarehead, you witness the full impact of your work—from idea to implementation—and the difference it makes in the world.
